Somali's journey began 28+ years ago — not in a classroom, but on dusty construction sites, sketching by hand, learning how light, material and human behaviour actually behave when a family moves in. That obsession with real design never left her.
In 2007, she founded Profex Institute in Kolkata with three students and a stubborn idea: design education in India must be taught by people who still practice design. Over the next 19+ years, she trained more than 30,000 designers — many of whom had been told by bigger institutes that they "wouldn't make it". She watched homemakers turn into studio owners, shy small-town graduates land jobs in Mumbai firms, and burnt-out architects fall back in love with their craft.
When AI quietly began rewriting every creative profession, most institutes pretended nothing had changed. Somali did the hardest thing — she tore the entire curriculum down and rebuilt it AI-first, online-first. The risk was enormous. The reward: she became India's first and top AI Design Coach, launched India's first online Interior Design course with AI, and built the country's largest AI designer community.
Today she is also an author of frameworks on AI-led interior design and the AI Designpreneur movement, an international speaker on AI in Architecture & Interior Design, and a practicing Architect at architectsomali.com, where she designs smart performing homes.
Her mission is simple, and stubborn: no Indian designer — homemaker in Patna, architect in Pune, fresher in Guwahati — should be left behind by the AI revolution.

Begins her journey as a young Architect & Interior Designer, learning the craft on real sites, not just on paper. Worked in various small, medium, and large companies like CES, Planning & Design Bureau, Hawk International, Jacobs for various projects for multiple countries in various roles. Starting from Residential, Commercial, Retail, Hospitality, Health Care, and Education.

Founds Profex Institute in Kolkata —in a garage, three students, one drafting table, one computer, one stubborn belief: design must be taught by practicing designers.

Launches her independent architecture practice — architectsomali.com — focused on smart, performance-led homes.

Expands mentorship across India. Homemakers, small-town graduates, and burnt-out architects start finding their voice.

Sees AI quietly rewriting creative professions. Begins research into Digital and then AI-led design workflows long before the industry catches on. online-first. The risk pays off.
